How long has HAV Surfboards been around? / Seit wann gibt es HAV Surfboards?
HAV Surfboards was born in 2013 when Juan started repairing and restoring surfboards. However, it wasn’t until the end of 2014 that Juan and Andrea met and began collaborating on the design and manufacture of surfboards. Juan is a craftsman by nature, always working with his hands and creating things, while Andre has a PhD in hydrodynamics. The fusion of these two worlds – craftsmanship and technical expertise – led to the creation of HAV Surfboards as we know it today, along with a great friendship.
HAV Surfboards wurde 2013 geboren, als Juan anfing, Surfboards zu reparieren und zu restaurieren. What motivated you to start HAV Surfboards? / Warum habt ihr HAV Surfboards gegründet?
Our passion for surfing and our fascination with board building were the driving forces behind this project. From the beginning we felt the need to create our own boards, experiment with materials and shapes, and develop products that reflected our vision. HAV Surfboards was born out of the desire to design and build boards that are perfectly suited to Mediterranean waves, while maintaining the highest possible quality.
Unsere Leidenschaft für das Surfen und unsere Faszination für den Boardbau waren die treibenden Kräfte hinter diesem Projekt. Von Anfang an hatten wir das Bedürfnis, unsere eigenen Bretter zu bauen, mit Materialien und Formen zu experimentieren und Produkte zu entwickeln, die unsere Vision widerspiegeln. What technology do you use to build your boards? / Mit welcher Technologie baut ihr Boards?
At HAV Surfboards every board is 100% custom made for each customer. This allows us to offer a wide variety of constructions: from classic PU/Polyester to more innovative options like vacuum bagged carbon, as well as sustainable and eco-friendly builds. We design our boards using specialist software and handcraft them using a variety of resins and foams including polyurethane, EPS, polyester and epoxy. We are always looking for new ways to improve our designs and push the technology forward.

For many years, our best-selling model has been the Mine, designed specifically for Mediterranean conditions and progressive surfing. More recently, however, modern twins (such as the Iris) and mid-lengths (such as the Acid and Easy Prey) have gained popularity. These boards come in a variety of fin configurations including twin, bonzer, single, thruster and quad. Overall, the current trend is towards boards with extra volume, offering easier paddling and performance in a wide range of conditions.
