Der Comment von diesem Herrn hier bezüglich Ian Cairns‘ Brief fast meiner Meinung nach perfekt zusammen, was ich selber über Contest Surfing, die ganze Industrie dahinter und den medialen Ausverkauf des Surfens denke:

Kanga I think the mission is going to be to separate big business from the culture of surfing in general RipQuickBong is not surfing and the day when surf clothing companies were seen as more representative of surfing than surfboard manufactures was the day it all went wrong Professional surfing as we know it is a old mans dream from the 1970’s that has run its course I in-fact question the validity of pro surfing in general what does it mean what does it achieve in real terms [Other than possibly the creation of lifestyle jobs for a select crew based off the sweat of few well trained athletes] Pro surfing is boring the Pro surfing image is boring, major surf companies are no different than any other lifestyle company with a multi faced branding being mass produced for the ever expanding consumer base they eventually by scale of economy turns out boring products AKA Nike / Dunlop / Ford / Etc due to not being able to take risks that may have a negative effect on forecasted bottom end result …..This is not rocket science this is the basis of commerce and stock returns Pro Surfing is not relevant to the majority and if your dream and the dream of those associated with the likes of the Kelly Tour or events like the Search which was successfully banished from the North West of Western Australia is to flood the beaches and waves with thousands upon thousands of new age surfers with surf schools and events happening at each and every half decent surf break and the entire impact this brings to the whole community and this includes the non surfing members of our communities then I am afraid you and them are also no longer relevant and your dream is to far removed from the overall reality that your vision encompasses One upon a time surfers were proud to say we only leave or foot prints on the beach, wow how that has changed over the years that the ISP ASP has been in existence jet skis, ships, planes pop out surfboards, new clothes each season, boardies that don’t last a summer, legropes that don’t last a wave over 3ft wet suits that don’t last a winter wax with more packaging that most medical products, wave pools, surf resorts etc etc Kanga you only need to look at Margaret River since the inspection of the Masters to understand the overall impact of your never revised vision it is flawed ……

ich war letzte Woche im geliebten Baskenland und an einem „Flat-Day“ seit Jahren mal wieder in Hossegor und das kurz nach Ende des ASP Events. Die Reste hingen noch bunt gekleidet in den Bars und Cafes rum. Das erstaunliche: Jede Major Brand hat ja sein eigenen Flagship Store im Ortskern aber alle verkaufen fast die gleichen Produkte nur mit anderen Labels. Was für ein Zirkus!
